Question 1

What resolution do you scan my photos with?

Accepted Answer

Printed photos are scanned at 600 dpi, providing high-quality digital files suitable for viewing, sharing and making good-sized prints. Slides and negatives are scanned at higher resolutions, typically 2000 to 3200 dpi, to capture the additional detail they contain. If you have specific requirements, just let us know when you place your order.

Question 2

What format are my scanned images saved in?

Accepted Answer

Your scanned photos are provided as JPEG files, which are ideal for viewing, sharing and printing. If you require another format, such as TIFF, please let us know. We can provide this where possible and will confirm any additional cost before proceeding.

Question 3

What types of photographs can you scan?

Accepted Answer

We can digitise a wide range of printed photographs, from older family snapshots to more recent prints. We also digitise slides and negatives, including 35mm and other common formats. If you have something unusual or are not sure whether we can handle it, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.

Question 4

Are there any photos you cannot scan?

Accepted Answer

Our standard photo scanning service is for loose photographs that are not laminated, framed or attached to albums, and have no glue or Blu-tack on them. We can usually scan fragile, damaged or unusually mounted photographs, but these require additional handling and may be charged separately. Photographs larger than A3 can also be scanned and will be quoted separately. If you are unsure about a particular photograph, just ask. We’ll confirm what is possible and any additional cost before starting work.

Question 5

Can you scan slides and negatives?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can digitise most types of slides and negatives, including 35mm, other common formats, and glass slides and negatives. The price depends on the type, condition and fragility of the material. If your slides or negatives require specialist handling, we’ll provide a quotation before starting any work.

Question 6

Can you restore damaged or faded photographs before scanning?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can digitally restore photographs that have faded, discoloured or suffered damage such as scratches, marks and tears. We carry out restoration digitally after scanning, so the original photograph remains unchanged. For more extensive restoration, we’ll assess the photograph and provide a separate quotation based on the work required.

Question 7

Can you scan photographs in different sizes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can scan photographs in a wide range of sizes, from small prints and standard family photographs through to A3 size. If you have particularly large, fragile or unusual photographs, let us know when you enquire, and we can advise on the best way to handle them and provide a quotation if required.
